Phoenix Challenge: DAY 7

Today is the last day of the challenge. Can’t lie it is a relief. The question I am answering is a time a spontaneous yes turned into the best decision of my life.

I would probably say when my friend was listing off the business ideas she had written in her notebook and when she mentioned ‘shisha rental’ — I was the one to say, “Yes, let’s do that!”

We both worked for the same start-up company and we usually stayed behind in the office after 5pm, one, to avoid the rush-hour traffic and two, because there were less people in the office which meant it was quieter to get work done.

My friend is an idea-machine and I am more of a (not always calculated) risk taker and we both enjoyed smoking shisha, so we thought why not?

From that late evening in February 2018 all the way up until March 2019 I learnt the ins and outs of what it is to be a founder of a start-up. That shit was hard but without a doubt it was the biggest learning curve that I have experienced thus far.

It allowed a new level of empathy to unlock within me. The reason being because it made me realise that no matter how big or small the changes or creations we’re trying to materialise in this world, it is worth celebrating. Doing anything at all takes the greatest effort and even though not everyone is recognised for their inputs it’s something that every creator should be proud of themselves about.
